How to OWN Your Worth: 5 Powerful Actions to Help You Value Yourself More
Have you ever squirmed when someone asked, “So… how much do you charge?” Or felt awkward negotiating your salary?
Maybe you’ve walked away from a pricing conversation with that gnawing feeling that something just wasn’t quite right?
You’re not alone — and trust me, I’ve been there too.
Whether you’re a solopreneur, a creative, or someone climbing the career ladder, knowing and owning your worth is one of the biggest challenges we face — and one of the most powerful shifts we can make.
In this article, and episode 23 of The Solo Coach Podcast, I want to share five practical steps that can help you move from awkwardness and self-doubt to clarity and confidence when it comes to valuing your time, energy and experience.
1. Find Out the Going Rate
This one might seem obvious, but many of us skip it entirely — or avoid it out of fear.
Do some research. What are others charging for similar services? What’s the salary range for your role in your country, region or industry? What would someone really be willing to pay for what you offer?
Knowledge is power. And while it’s true that comparison can be the thief of joy, in this context, it can also provide valuable insight and clarity.
But don’t stop there…
2. Consider the Value of You
Beyond your product, your service or your job title — what else do you bring to the table?
Your energy and enthusiasm
Your unique story and life experience
Your character, chemistry and care
Your track record, testimonials, and positive feedback
Your perspective — shaped by the roads you’ve travelled
You are more than a set of bullet points on a CV or a service list on a website. When people work with you, they’re getting you — not just what you do. That matters.
3. Tune Into How It Feels
Now, think back to the last time you got paid — or agreed on a price. How did it feel?
Did you feel proud? Aligned? Clear?
Or did you feel a little bit sick? Maybe you knew deep down you’d undersold yourself — again. Or maybe you overpromised, and now feel under pressure to deliver beyond your capacity.
Here’s the truth: how you feel about what you charge is just as important as the figure itself.
Trust your gut. It’s often wiser than we give it credit for. And, on top of that…
4. Audit Your Actions
Here’s a powerful reflection: What do your daily actions say about your self-worth?
Are you saying yes to unpaid work you resent?
Undervaluing your time to “keep people happy”?
Doing tasks you hate just to save a few pounds — even though you could outsource them?
Our behaviour tells a story. And often, it quietly chips away at our confidence, even when we don’t realise it.
And the thing is — others notice too.
Self-worth is often caught, not taught. If you continually undervalue yourself, those around you might start doing the same.
Be the example who sets the record straight for all those you work with, live with, and spend time with.
Be the exception who leads the way for others who are also experiencing low self-worth, and struggling to ask for what they’re truly worth.
Be the one who does things differently, and watch as others start to notice, and watch with interest, whilst you carve your path to success!
5. Upgrade Your Self-Worth
So… what now?
Start with one small step. Say no to that lowball offer. Raise your prices by 10%. Ask for the raise. Practice saying your new rate out loud — with confidence.
You are more than the sum of your parts.
You are more than your pricelist or job title.
You are worth more than your lowest expectations.
You are worth it — and you deserve to be fairly paid for the value you bring.
And if you’re not ready just yet, that’s okay.
Start by practising. Role-play that tricky conversation with a friend, a mentor or a coach. The more you say it, the easier it becomes.
Final Thoughts
Owning your worth isn’t about arrogance — it’s about alignment. It’s about walking away from conversations with your head held high and your gut saying, “That felt good.”
Remember: Tiny steps, taken consistently, compound into massive results.
So take the next small step. Then the next.
You’ve got this.
